If you have nothing to do during the next holiday or weekend, you may want to try organising a movie marathon for you and several friends to enjoy. Not only are movie marathons a great way to pass the time, but they are also a fantastic way to better appreciate the art that is filmmaking.
Planning a movie marathon is simple enough, but it does require a little effort on your part. With that in mind, here are a few tips to help you plan a movie marathon that is sure to be a hit with your guests:
The Movie Line-up
To start off, you’ll need to plan out what movies you’re going to watch before the marathon starts. Nothing bogs down the pace of a movie marathon like choosing which movies to watch on the spot, especially if you invited a large group of people.
If you’re having trouble thinking of films that go well together, you may want to watch cult classic movies that are part of a series. For example, you and your friends could watch all three movies of the “The Toxic Avenger” series straight.
Recreate the Cinema
Get everyone in the mood to watch films by recreating a cinema. Use your laptop to find a website, like The Viewlorium, that lets you watch some free movies online, hook up your laptop to an LCD projector, dim the lights, draw the curtains, and enjoy the show. If you’re concerned about the noise level, you can put up heavy curtains on your windows and tape blankets, bed sheets, egg cartons along the windows and doors to “soundproof” your home.
Food and Snacks
Your guests will undoubtedly look for something to munch on during the marathon. Go with popular movie treats like popcorn and an assortment of sweets to help give you the energy to power through the marathon. If your marathon is set to last more than “a few hours”, however, an article from WikiHow offers the following advice:
If your marathon will last more than 6 hours, your guests may get tired of snack foods and expect a real meal. Determine how you will feed them. Should everyone pitch in for pizza? Or will you take a break halfway through the marathon to grill up some burgers?
If you need to cook up a meal or two for the marathon, try choosing food items that don’t require a long time to prepare, or prepare the food beforehand so all that’s left to do is to cook it. Alternatively, you can opt to have food delivered to your home instead.
